Pear (Pyrus communis) is a temperate fruit crop producing sweet, juicy fruits with excellent shelf life. Requires 400–800 chilling hours depending on variety. Grafted plants begin bearing within 3–4 years. Annual yield of 30–50 kg per tree at maturity. Fruits are rich in dietary fibre, Vitamin C, and potassium. Thrives in well-drained loamy soils at moderate altitudes.
